It’s my birthday today! YAY! Happy brithday to meeee! Another year older, but another year wiser right? Today I’m on the Create a Smile blog sharing this fun, summery card. I can’t emphasize how much I love this kit. The stencil is very unique, the rhino is ridiculously cute, the stencil is so awesome (I’ll save it for a later card), and lastly, you got pattern paper, stickers, and sequins that are all already matched for you! Efficiency at it’s best.
I’ve been excited to play with embossing paste the second I saw this stencil. The surfboard theme… well that came second. I tend to start with partial ideas, and then things just start to piece together as I’m making things! There’s no surfboard die, but I was able to create my own easily with a large circle die by die cutting twice to create that surfboard shape.
I then colored in my rhino with copic colors. Thought about what a surfer would wear if they didn’t have a wetsuit, and I thought, neon bright colors seems to be a fun idea. I created my own sentiment with the alphabet stickers in the kit, and spelling out “Surf’s up” and stuck it on acetate first, and then fussy cut out. Although completely unnecessary, I wanted to do that so I move around while I decided on the placement. If I was going to be placing it over the waves, the texture of the surface would have caused some trouble for those stickers.
I like to add a little pattern interest, so I added a strip of the polka dots form the kit to the left side of my card. And that completes my fun, summer card!
