Hello, and welcome to the Holiday 2016 Essentials by Ellen Release Hop! You should have arrived here from Julia’s blog, but if you’ve wandered off the path, there’s a full list at the bottom!
I am just so blown away by this release! Today, I’ll be showcasing a several of the new stamp sets and dies on my post today it but there’s so much to share that you’ll definitely be seeing me share more cards with their amazing release over the next few weeks!
Let’s start off with the new Holiday Words designer dies and the Leaping Deer designer dies! These nice, large crisp word dies were so perfect to pair with a clean silhouette image. A simple colored background will make these shapes glow!
I decided to go with a watercolor wash of blues and greens. Blues always gives me a feeling of serenity, and it matches beautifully with the silver peace word that I wanted to focus on my card today. Once the wash was dry, I added some splatter effect to give a feeling of movement from the leaping deer that I planned to die cut.
Once the leaping deer is die cut out, you’re left with the inverse that will stand out simply from the white cardstock underneath. The deer that was die cut out is so beautiful! I’ve held onto this guy to make another card in a future project. Right now it sits beside me on my desk to keep me inspired!
I then die cut the peace word die out of silver glitter paper. There are a couple ways to tackle the next stem. I adhered another layer of white cardstock underneath the glitter paper for extra thickness to support it across the deer. But, another option would be to adhere acetate behind the deer so that you have the acetate to support to word. For me, I wanted only the peace word to shine when the light hit it so there’s no reflection from the acetate.
Here’s a final shot of how gorgeous the word glistens! I can see this layout work beautifully for ‘Joy’ and ‘Love’ that are also in the Holiday Word dies.
I’m excited to share my next card featuring the new stamp set Tree Farm, designed by the talented Brandi Kincaid! I just love her style of whimsical illustrations and so happy to work with her designs!
I’m so in love with these stamps. I immediately wanted to watercolor them! I started by stamping the trailer and the large tree onto watercolor paper. I did use my MISTI so that I can get a couple layers of stamping on it so it’s nice and clean. Then I stamped the smaller tree and the mouse separately as I knew I wanted to bring those images out with foam tape for a mild 3D look.
Once all the watercoloring is dried, I added a hint splatter with the green I used on the trees. And then heat embossed my sentiment ‘O Christmas Tree in the little gap between the trailer and large tree with bronze embossing powder. Isn’t that handlettering adorable??
To add that last vintage-y touch to the scene, I used Vintage Photo distress ink and gently blended in the edges of the card.
I can’t wait to go shopping for my Christmas tree this year!! Who else loves the smell of pine trees in their home?!
