My Favorite Things

MFT Wednesday Sketch Challenge 414

There’s a new My Favorite Things Wednesday Sketch Challenge up and I’m joining you this week to share my take on the sketch and hopefully inspire you to participate! I really like this week’s sketch because it leaves me a lot of room to free style. Since we’re finally in December, it felt fitting to dig into my holiday stash to make some more Christmas cards (even though I’ve been making holiday cards since July).

I tend to pick out the stamp set I want to work with before I even think about the sketch, and I went way back to this charming Birdie Brown set called Jingle All the Way. I stamped the reindeer, Santa, and presents from the set in Milk Chocolate hybrid ink and colored the images with copic markers. Then, they were die cut out with the coordinating Die-namics.

The layout is really open, and really the only feature is the thin strip towards the bottom, which is a great spot for a sentiment. So, I created a simple snowy scene by ink blending Blueprint Sketch and Tumbled Glass distress oxide inks, and added both ink splatters and white paint splatters to the background. I also gave the images a light white paint splatter.

Knowing that I was going to have this Santa in the center, I also added some rays my blending some white pigment ink over the Sun Ray stencil. Creates an exciting effect! I also die cut a piece of white card stock with the Stitched Snow Drifts Die-namics and blended the edge gently with Tumbled Glass distress oxide ink, and added this to the bottom of the card.

I heat embossed this funny sentiment in white onto Cement Gray card stock. This sentiment is from Sassy Pants Holiday. I love the collection of sentiments in this set! I trimmed the piece down to a thin strip and added it to my card with foam tape. And finally added my images last to the scene with foam squares. Jingle ALL the way!

Oh what fun it was to make this card! Hope this sends some festive inspiration your way and encourage you join us in this week’s sketch.

You have until Tuesday, December 11, at noon EST to participate on the MFT Card Challenges blog and be eligible for the $50 MFT cash prize randomly selected amongst participants. Happy crafting!
