Spellbinders August Large Die of the Month

Check out this month’s Spellbinders Large Die of the Month! The theme across the monthly kits this month revolves around school and the large die of the month (“LDOM”) die cuts this really cool clipboard along with a few other school supplies such as a pencil, scissors, pen, and paper clips! I don’t have kids yet, but found the LDOM perfect for creating cards for my coworkers with this office theme.

As you can see, I stuck to colors that I consider “normal”. I used the matte silver foil card stock in the Sparkle Trio Specialty Paper to die cut the metal areas. The paper clips looked so realistic that I had accidentally picked it up a couple times thinking they were real paper clips! I used some brown card stock in my stash that had a woven texture for the board and for the remainder, I just used white cardstock that was then inked up with my distress oxide colors. I don’t carry a lot of color card stock, so I like to use my inks to work around that hole.

For the paper, I used an old retired pattern pack from MFT called Off the Grid. You may still find it in some retailers, but I think using an actual college lined notebook paper would work very well here as well (and cheaper too!).

My sentiment is from the Mama Elephant Just A Note stamp set. It was too perfect for this purpose and I simply stamped the large handwritten words in Hickory Smoke distress oxide ink. I also added some faux coffee cup stains by using a bottom of a mug and some brown watercolor paint to “stamp” it twice. Then, I assembled the whole look together.

Although the clipboard already covered most of the A2 card sized front, I decided to back it with a simple black and white pattern paper found from the Pinkfresh Studio Simple & Sweet Paper Pack. The LDOM was so fun to assemble and it makes such an incredibly unique card perfect for office or school themed recipients!
