Waffle Flower September 2019 New Release Blog Hop + Giveaways

It’s Waffle Flower September Release Day! We love to celebrate our release day with a blog hop with the team and friends and I’ve got a jam packed post for you!

I really love this month’s release, and even more so because we are introducing a new illustrator Cassie Loizeaux into the mix. Her work is adorable, unique, and just fantastic. So let’s just start with the project I made with her inaugural set!

This stamp set is called Flower Girl. It is such a sweet set and I love the style of her illustration, but what I also love about this set is that it is a 2-layer builder stamp set, which means there are solid stamp images that essentially “color” in the image such that you can just stamp picking up a marker! I still love to color and definitely still did, but because I had some stamps solid, I was able to add some embossing elements to her dress.

I stamped the girl first, colored, then die cut. Then I went back and heat embossed the flowers at the bottom. The small floral bunches around her were also stamped and I only had to color in the leaves. These were then die cut last.

With the individual floral stamp in the set, I used it to create a soft pattern paper. I used the Nesting Square dies to die cut a larger square out of kraft card stock and a smaller square out of white card stock. I ink blended the white square with Worn Lipstick and Tattered Rose distress oxide inks. I added these layers to the card, added the flowers around the frame, and my pretty girl last in the center. The birthday sentiment was stamped right below it to complete the card.

We have a new Big Bear & Bird stamp set this month called Bear Hugs. A cute set great for sympathy, get well, retirement and just any day kind of card. I had always admired this illustrator for her watercolor artwork, so it felt right to bring out my watercolors for this card.

I stamped the image in black Versafine Clair ink and used my Winsor & Newton watercolor paints. Once dry, I die cut the image with the matching dies.

I also created a background with my watercolors by paint horizontal stripes across a piece of watercolor paper. I varied the intensity of the paint to get variation. After the background dried, I then used the Nesting Ovals to die cut a background out.

I used the black Versafine Clair ink again to stamp the large ‘happy retirement’ sentiment from the Happy Retirement Combo. I love how the matching dies for this cuts out all the inner spacing in the letters! I then heat embossed the second part of the sentiment ‘from all of us’ in white onto kraft card stock and simply trimmed it down with my paper trimmer.

To put it all together, I used a soft coral plaid pattern paper for the background and then layered all my die cuts on top of it with foam tape.

A release wouldn’t be the same without a new set from Liz Mytinger. This month’s set is called Little Artists and I think so many of us will find this one relatable and close to your heart! I stamped several images from the set in a dark brown hybrid ink and colored them with copic markers. Then, I used the matching dies to die cut all the images out.

The background was really fun to create. I used the direct to paper technique with my distress oxide inks, which means I applied the ink pad directly onto the paper and swiped it downward. It created a painted look, and I also imitated this in the easel stamped image. Inception!

After the background is dry (either via heat set or with sufficient air drying time), I heat embossed the sentiment from the Rainbow stamp set in white. The sentiment is so fitting for this card. I trimmed down the background to leave a little room above and below it for some rainbow stripe pattern paper to show through. The die cut images were added to the card last with foam squares.

My last card today features the new floral set illustrated by Karla Jodoin called Poppy Hawthorn. When I switch from “fun and cute” to “floral” themes, I tend to switch my mindset to something more dramatic and rustic. I stuck with my copic markers again here and heat embossed the image in gold, and also added some light white paint splatter for interest.

With an image as large and detailed as this, I like to keep the background simple to highlight the focal point. So I decided to mask off an area with post-it tape to enhance the height of this floral arrangement. Within this area I ink blended Gathered Twigs and Tea Dye distress oxide inks.

I heat embossed the ‘hello’ in the same gold embossing vertically along the ink blended edge. I added the flowers last with foam tape to complete the card.

Whew! That was a lot and I hope you enjoyed each one!
