Altenew December 2019 Ink Release Blog Hop

New Altenew inks!!! I hope you’re just as excited as I am about the new inks. I almost solely use Altenew inks for stamping as I love the quality, coverage, and pre-coordinated inks, and could not be more happy that they’ve added a few more colors to their line up. I am even more excited that they are earthy tones!! *LOVE* Let me introduce to you the new ink oval sets, Sugarplums, Fall Harvest, and Tranquility.

I immediately made swatches for all of them to share with you as I know sometimes the label colors or digital swatches are not always perfectly representative of the colors. Swatching also helps me pick out colors when I’m creating, so it’s something I like to do as soon as possible! You can read more about my swatch system in this post(I’ll have to document a more detailed post for you guys in the future!)

The Fall Harvest oval set caught my eye immediately! I struggle finding the “right” yellows for my projects because I don’t like a yellow that is too vibrant. I like my yellow dull, so to compensate I usually like to dab in some browns. So this ombre collection of yellows in a dull, brownish undertone made me very happy! So let’s check out how they layer on the gorgeous Sunflower Daisy stamp set.

The larger of the two sunflowers has 4 layers and uses all 4 colors of the Fall Harvest set. The smaller flower is only 2 years and uses the lighter 3 colors of the Fall Harvest set (adding a 3rd color through sponge daubing). The centers of the flower was stamped in Rocky Shore and Mocha, and the leaves are stamped in Frayed Leaf, Forest Glades, and Evergreen.

The images were all die cut out with the matching dies, and I like to add a little texture to the stamped images but adding some light white paint splatter. I love stripe backgrounds and although a pattern paper would suffice, I love the texture of ink blending, so I used the Beach Towel Stripes Stencil and ink blended Evening Gray ink.

I trimmed down my ink blended background just slightly smaller than my A2 card size, stamped the sentiment ‘with thanks’ from the Inked Flora stamp set in Jet Black, and added my floral arrangement with liquid adhesive and foam tape.

I just adore the Sugarplums and Tranquility colors as well! My first thoughts were that the Sugarplums absolutely perfect for the Lavender and Garden Hydrangea sets. Tranquility would look stunning as some frosted berries in the Bountiful Branch or Peaceful Wreath sets. And of course these colors would look beautiful in any flower combination! To share with you a taste of these colors alongside each other, my next card will be using one of my all-time favorite layered set called Life is Awesome.

This card is so colorful and I love it! So as you can see, I have used 5 different sets of colors including the new Tranquility, Sugarplums, and Fall Harvest sets. The leaves were stamped in Olive and Moss, and the pink flower was stamped in Frosty Pink, Coral Berry, Ruby Red, and Grapevine. The flower were all die cut out with the matching dies, but most of the leaves were stamped directly onto the background panel.

I used my watercolors to gently splatter the stamped images and background so that I get little speckles for texture. I stamped the sentiment ‘have a lovely day’ from the Inked Flora stamp set in Jet Black right in the center.

Finally, I assembled my flowers onto the card with foam tape and trimmed off any images that may have extended past the edge. Gotta make sure they can be mailed, ya know? I love the juxtaposition of those duller colors next to that bright pink flower!
