Waffle Flower x Tombow Inspiration: Faux Watercolor Celebrate Card

This whole week over on the Waffle Flower blog, the team has been showcasing inspiration using a combination of Waffle Flower and Tombow products. Today, I have chosen to use the Tombow Dual Brush Pens for coloring!

I’ve always owned Tombow Dual Brush Pens, but only used them for handlettering. So this is actually my first time using to color, and due to its water soluble properties, coloring with them and with a water brush give them a watercolor like look.

I stamped several flowers from Bouquet Builder 6 in Versamark ink and heat embossed it in gold. I then used the Tombow dual brush pens to add color to each of the images, starting with the darker colors first, the lighter color, and then a water brush to smooth out the transitions between the colors. Once the images were dried, I used the matching dies to die cut each of the floral images out.

I wanted these flowers to cover most of the card and wrap around the sentiment. I found the Label Greetings sentiment to be perfect for this, while giving the sentiment its own frame to stand out amongst all the flowers. To keep the theme consistent, I also heat embossed the sentiment in gold and die cut it out with its matching dies.
A little ink blending goes a long way, and I decided to add a little bit Tea Dye distress oxide ink from the top and bottom of the card. I then added the sentiment to the center of the card first, and then added the floral stems around it, trimming off any excess hanging off the edge.
