Happy Saturday! It’s time for a new challenge over at Inspired by All the Little Things, which features an inspiration photo of beautiful blue butterflies. I have owned this Altenew Wild Hibiscus set for some time, but haven’t had the chance to use them, so when I saw this week’s inspiration photo, I immediately knew I had to take them out! I also combined this card with a few other challenges out there.

So over at IbAtLT, we feature blue butterflies. so I wanted to make sure that the star of my card today were the butterflies. The wild hibiscus in this set has a sketchlike style, and it works absolutely perfect with loose watercoloring, my favorite look! I stamped the flowers in black ink around the right corner of the card, and then the butterflies fluttering around the flowers. Then, I started painting a very soft grey around the the flowers. Next, the fun part is to watercolor the butterflies with gradient layers of blue.
The beauty of watercolor is its uncontrollable nature, and decided to really let go with this one. I wanted to create a dripping effect from the butterflies, so I let the blue paint flow down the canvas of my card. I then went back and painted some additional light turqouise loose coloring around the butterflies. I also surrounded the butterflies with blue, turqouise, and dark grey splatter.
For the sentiment, I used “forever grateful” from the same stamp set. I white embossed the sentiment on vellum, and then layered it in front of a thin piece of black cardstock to help the sentiment be easier to read. Since I am using vellum here, I adhered it to the card by stapling it twice. First time, actually was a little too near the edge, so I stapled it again, initially planning to remove the first staple. However the double staple actually turned out looking pretty nice so I kept it!
Hope you like my combined take on the 2 inspirations!
