My Favorite Things

MFT January Release Countdown Day 3

We’re halfway through the My Favorite Things January Release Countdown! There are tons of amazing stuff in this month’s release, but the new Brushtroke Blooms has easily become one of my favorites!

Lately, I’ve been more and more drawn towards floral stamps. It might be because I’ve been looking at a lot of flowers lately because I’m trying to figure out what to plant in my yard this upcoming spring, but it has really been a strong source of inspiration lately and I love it! I’ve always been such a huge fan of more abstract flowers than realistic, so the new Brushtroke Blooms really called to me.

I started with the background by stamping the various leaves from the top half of the card in ombre. For my ombre leaves, I used my MISTI tool and started by stamping down my images in Sour Apple dye ink. Then, while the stamp is still in the same position, I used a sponge dauber to add some Jellybean Green dye ink onto my stamp in areas of the image that I wanted a little darker shading. I stamped down again, and it gives me ombre stamped leaves! I repeated this for all the leaves and then finished by adding some splatter with the same inks.

I stamped the flowers in Summer Splash and Blu Raspberry dye inks and then die cut them out with the coordinating Die-namics. For the flower in the ‘O’ that has a center, I heat embossed it in gold. I die cut the words ‘LOVE YOU’ using the Die-namics Love You out of white card stock and then used Worn Lipstick distress oxide inks to blend from bottom up. I die cut the words out of craft foam as well to adhere behind the words for depth.

I used the inverse cut to help me align the letters as I adhered onto my leafy background. And lastly, I adhered the flowers between the V and E and over the O right on top of the letters. And that finishes our card today!

Be sure to visit the MFT Blog every day during the countdown for more release content and projects from participating design team members. All release product will be available Tuesday, January 9 at 9pm EST in the MFT Store.

Cheers,

Supplies

Hi Keeway! Ink blending is my personal favorite technique, when making my cards and I love your work so much, that I’m taking a longer look at your blog today. This card is a Beauty! I wanted you to know that I began sponging directly on stamps for depth, after reading your blog. I love the shading effects. I had a question, if you have the time. I haven’t tried the Distress Oxides yet. What do you find is the difference between the oxides and original distress inks? Are they more pastel? Thank you Keeway. You inspire me. All the time! 🙂
