Are you excited about the Altenew October Release!? I am! It’s such a beautiful release and I’m thrilled to be sharing a couple projects with you featuring these gorgeous stamps and dies. Each card is completely different so hope to give you as much inspiration as possible!
For my first card, I am showcasing the Peaceful Wreath stamp and die set. I love working with wreaths because they are like perfect embellishments to a focal sentiment. I stamped the layered stamps of this beautiful wreath in Olive and Moss dye inks for the leaves, and Coral Berry and Ruby Red for the berries. I took an additional step to bring these berries into life by using my Prismacolor pencils. The added shading gave those berries a very realistic look! Then, I added a little white dot to them with a white gel pen and I die cut them with the coordinating dies.
At this point I already knew that I was centering the sentiment, so I created a ink blended background with Worn Lipstick and Tattered Rose distress oxide inks to the top and bottom of the card. I added some splatter for interest.
The coordinating dies also comes with this gorgeous ‘peace’ sentiment die, which I used here and die cut it out of gold mirror card stock. I further backed it with a couple more layers of die cuts out of white card stock to add the extra dimension to the word. From the same stamp set, I added ‘wishing you’ and ‘this Christmas’ to complete the sentiment directly onto the background in a dark brown ink. And finally I added the peace word in between and the wreaths around it with foam tape. A beautiful, classic look!
This next one was a very fun to make and *gasp* there was no coloring at all! The star of this card is the Layered Floral Elements Die set. And if you feel like those florals look familiar, you’re eyes are sharp cause you likely recognized the same floral shapes as the Bride-To-Be Stamp set! My immediate thought when I saw these dies was that they remind me of the Love Flourishes postage stamp, so I definitely was very inspired by the use of flowers around a large word, or in my case, a giant ampersand.
Without a real plan, I just started die cutting a bunch of pieces in pastel colors and begun layering them. I put the darker color card stock right behind the softer top layers, and in cases where I lacked the color card stock I needed (like my pink flowers), I used some ink blending to get me some additional colors to work with! My color card stock collection is relatively slim, so this is my workaround.
With my pile of die cut flowers and my large ampersand die cut out of white card stock using the Mega Ampersand Die, I started playing around with the arrangement. I originally looked for a “Mr.” and “Mrs.” sentiment in hopes of making this a wedding card, but I couldn’t find it! What I did end up finding is the sentiment “You are beautiful, too!” from the Hello Sunshine set which I thought worked really well. So with a little curving of the stamp placement, I heat embossed the sentiment onto the leg (?) of the ampersand in silver embossing powder. I chose to work with a soft grey card stock as my background, added some white paint splatter, gave it some minimal stitching edges, and arranged my flowers all around the ampersand.
I’m really happy with how it turned out! Hope these cards send some inspiration your way, whether it be to bring out your color pencils for some extra depth, or play around with die cut floral arrangements, whatever it is, I’m sure it will be gorgeous!
