My Favorite Things

MFT August Release Countdown Day 4

My absolute favorite holiday to craft for is Halloween (with Christmas trailing closely behind). I only wish that it was more widely celebrated to share my excitement of it with every one of you! But every year there’s this tiny window in the craft world that a few Halloween themed sets are released and I get very excited to work with them! Today, I’ll be sharing with you a Halloween card featuring the new set from Stacey Yacula called Spooktacular Friends.

Like many of my projects, my original “plan” gives me a start but the pathway to the end usually runs into some hiccups and I change things as I’m creating. I always start by stamping and coloring my images. I stamped all the images from Spooktacular Friends in Milk Chocolate hybrid ink, colored them with copic markers, and die cut with the matching Die-namics. I also gently blended the edges of this die cuts with some Vintage Photo distress ink.

I had already envisioned this dark vintage-esque scene, but what I didn’t account for was how large the images were! I was stubborn to keep them all so I had to change up my plans to create a slimline sized card to avoid crowding up the scene. Thankfully I hadn’t started ink blending the background yet at this point so I cut down some white card stock for a 8.5″ by 4″ size panel for this elongated scene.

The background and grass are both ink blended with distress oxide inks. The grass was die cut with Grassy Hills Die-namics and it will take two cuts to get the full length of this card. The grass was added to the panel and I tucked in the haunted house and tree thereafter. I heat embossed the sentiment in white in the top right corner, and then added the characters last with foam tape.

These spooktacular friends sure look like they having a great trick or treating night! For more inspirations and details of other products showcased in today’s countdown, be sure to head on over to the MFT blog.
