In January, we celebrate the Lunar New Year and 2020 is the Year of the Rat! The Rat is the first of the twelve zodiac animals and Mama Elephant begun a fun new series of animal sets featuring these zodiac animals. Earlier this week, I showcased the Zodiac Ox and today we’re going to check out the Zodiac Mouse!
I really took in the Lunar New Year spirit for this card today and embodied the traditional colors of red and gold to create this festive scene! I like to start my coloring images first so I stamped them in a dark brown hybrid ink and colored them with copic markers. I used the matching dies to die cut all the images.
My background primarily consisted of these die cut lanterns created with the Sakura Lanterns Creative Cuts. There are three different lanterns in this die set and I die a total of 5 lanterns to use here. I ink blended each one with Fired Brick, Worn Lipstick, and Tattered Rose distress oxide inks. I also die cut these small accents in gold mirror card stock to decorate these lanterns with.
My background was ink blended with the same colors. I added my lanterns hanging across the top of the card. Then I die cut the large Chinese letter from the Fortune Envelope Creative Cuts out of gold mirror card stock and added it to the top center of the card.
I added my cute little mice to the card last below the lanterns and with foam adhensive. After I finished this piece, I thought it would be even better if I framed it as a gift! So I did just that with just a red card stock backing until I can get a custom matboard for this A2 sized design.
So cute, right?! I love it! I need to make more things to frame up! Hope you enjoy today’s inspiration and see you back here tomorrow for more!
