Welcome back to another day of the My Favorite Things April Release Countdown! It is Day 4, which means we share with you the newest Birdie Brown set called BB Rain or Shine! Quite fitting for all the Spring rain. In addition to this set, there is also a complimental mini set called BB Puddle Jumper that features a male character, which I’ll save to share with you on a future project.
I only recently start using alcohol inks and absolutely loved it, so I decided to try it again to create swift looking background, reminescent of a lot of rain. I have done these brushstrokes before with watercolors in past designs, but decided to give alcohol inks a try to see what I will end up with!
With Yupo paper, the alcohol inks instantly start to creep outwards as soon as a drop hits the surface, so it will definitely move around much fluidly than watercolors. But, I still wanted to retain some brush like motion to it, so I did not cover the entire paper with alcohol. I added a few drops of Sailboat Blue and Wild Plum alcohol inks and then used a brush to swipe the colors diagonally across the paper. After it dried, I used some white acrylic paint and added some splatter into the background.
My images were stamped in Milk Chocolate hybrid ink and colored with copic markers. I also used a white acrylic pen to add some polka dots to her rain boots. My rain boots look exactly the same! Then, I die cut all the images out with its coordinating dies. Those little duckies are so, so adorable.
I trimmed a strip of Cement Gray card stock and die cut one edge of it with stitched lines using the Stitched Rectangle STAX. Using the same card stock, I heat embossed a sentiment from the stamp set in white. I then die cut the sentiment with the Stitched Fishtail Sentiment Strip to give have the complimentary stitched look!
Right before I adhere all the pieces together, I used a grey copic marker to add some shadows to where I planned to place my characters. Then I adhered all the pieces to my alcohol ink background with foam tape. Such a sweet scene and perfect card to send to a friend for support. Love it!
